The mystery of the spinning statue has been solved. For months, curators at a British museum had been wondering how an ancient Egyptian statue in a display had been able to rotate on its own. Some visitors believed the statue was cursed and that it was the work of evil spirits.
But a British engineer has discovered the truth. "The statue was rotating due to vibrations entering the display case," Steve Gosling tells Reuters. "We installed an accelerometer and found that vibrations from both road traffic and footfall within the museum were the cause."
