It was the first weekend of the State Fair so with visions of fried concoctions dancing in our heads and antacids in our pockets, my friend Reeder and I headed out to do some damage. Our reviews of all the foods we tried are below:

Fried Jambalaya: This won the Best Tasting Big Tex Choice Award this year, the portion was a bit small as was the shrimp and sausage pieces inside, but it did taste good. 8 tickets.

Fried Bacon Cinnamon Roll: This won the Most Creative Big Tex Choice Award. It was okay, but the bacon taste was lost in the all grease and sugar. 12 tickets.

Deep Fried Mac & Cheese Sliders: 2 sliders and some fries was a pretty good deal for 14 tickets and it was good!

Picnic on a Stick: We had no idea what this was going to be like and we were pleasantly surprised! This was a tasty skewer of chicken, tater tots and pickles deep fried to perfection. 12 tickets.

Flectcher's Corny Dog: Reeder's mom swears that the BEST corny dogs at the Fair are from the red and white stand next to one of the fun houses in The Midway. We were not disappointed! 10 tickets.

Cinnamon Roll with Icing: My friend Lee has been telling us to try the Cinnamon Roll at the food court for years. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but Rachel was up for the challenge. She and Reeder were in cinnamon roll heaven. 10 tickets.

The State Fair ends on Oct. 21 so you have plenty of time to try these and other indulgences!
