Get your glass of milk chillin because I have a surprise for you at the end of this blog!! The Metro Cooking Show was in town last month and all the Dallas Foodies were out in full force!! National and Local North Texas food vendors were putting their best samples out for all to indulge. I enjoyed walking the show and seeing what's new but the reason I wanted to go....Paula Deen. While touring the vendor booths, I noticed that Paula has a new line of food products that "were" to be rolled out last May but due to the scandal, they held off.
The new product line is true to "Paula" style!! They were pre-selling her decadent line of products for her to autograph when she finished her stage appearance. I couldn't help myself so I bought one of each. She has chocolate bars, cake mixes, salad dressings and a whole host of other delights that we can look forward to seeing on the shelves this Spring 2014. I was especially drawn to the cake mix "Ooey Gooey Butter Cake". I have seen all of Paula's shows and even created my own version of this heavenly cake but nothing compares to the easy three step process she has done with this cake mix. As seen in the pictures, mix & spread the cake mix, then spread the filling over the cake mix, then bake! In about forty minutes, you have a treat that will make you feel like you went to the bakery. No joke. I ate the first bite and was like, "that was easy".
Here is my version of the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake:
Cake mixure (base)
Yellow Cake mix box (18 1/4 oz package any brand)
1 stick of melted butter not margarine or other substitute :)
ONE 8-oz package of cream cheese
1 tsp. vanilla
1 stick of melted butter
16 oz box of powdered sugar
Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine cake mix, egg & butter. Mix well. Pat into lightly greased 13" x 9" baking pan. No glass pan
For Filling mixture:
Use mixer to beat cream cheese until smooth, add eggs and vanilla, then add melted butter and continue blending. Add powdered sugar and continue to mix. Last, spread mixture over cake base in pan then bake for 30-40 minutes. Make sure not to over bake. Cake will be brown around the edges (best part!!!) They will look more like blonde brownies but I assure they are the BEST cream cheese and butter combo everrrrrrr! watch cake closely as the time gets near 30 minutes.
Let cake cool completely before serving and small squares are best. 2"x2" otherwise you will feel like you need to be rescued.
You will love how easy it is.
