It's the most wonderful time of the year!! and no, I'm not talking about Christmas...I'm talking about the State Fair of Texas!! All eyes will be on the Big Tex Circle when the Fair's 52-ft host debuts his new look on opening day September 27th (fair runs thru October 20th). The theme for this upcoming season is The One & Only. Big Tex is the inspiration behind this year’s theme. For sixty years, the one & only stood watch over the fairgrounds during the annual State Fair of Texas until October 19, 2012, a fire engulfed the beloved cowboy. Faster than you can eat a funnel cake, Big Tex was a smokey memory. This year the "new look" for Big Tex will be unveiled and he should be lookin spiffy with the updated clothing choice.
So many good things will be happening at the fair this year including The Chevrolet Main Stage concerts, The Top o’ Texas ride (new to fairgoers this 2013), and The State Fair Musical (Tony® Award –winning Broadway sensation The Lion King) just to name a few, and while I love those attractions...let's be honest, It's all about the FOOD!!
So let's get to the good stuff....
After all the fried food submissions have been tasted and reviewed...they have narrowed it down to the Top 20! On Tuesday, August 27th, the eight Big Tex Choice award finalists will be announced!! The finalist's will compete on Labor Day to see who is going to be the busiest line at the fair. I will be at the competition again this year and fifteen minutes early to make sure I don't miss a thing!! You can count on me to bring you details of every bite and I bet that I will be the happiest person there besides the concessionaires.
