Who doesn't love pizza?? With so many options like, deep dish, thin crust and choices about which type of dough, ingredient combinations, and oh my, the list goes on...there is a pizza for everyone!! This week, surprise your loved ones and celebrate this food holiday by making your own home made pizzas! Forget calling to order a pizza, get the family together and make dinner fun by hosting your own pizza bar! What a fun idea that will definitely will get the kids talking.
Check out the pizza crusts and toppings now available in your grocers. Depending where you grocery shop, most of these ingredients for pizza toppings and tomato sauces are on the same aisle. Pre made pizza crusts are available in whole wheat versions now and if you visit your natural grocer they have gluten-free pizza crusts in the frozen section. Pizza dough is now even available in the "pop'n fresh" versions with whole wheat and garlic infused flavors and are actually pretty good!
Now for the ingredients, I like to fry up fresh Italian sausage, pepperonis and onions. This is a great way to sneak in veggies to your kids by adding them as ingredient options. Choose any meats, veggies and cheeses. Make sure when choosing a mozzarella or any cheese you put on your pizza, make sure it's real cheese. Look at the ingredient list and if you can't spell it or it doesn't seem like it should be in cheese, don't buy it. Cheese makes all the difference when it comes to making pizzas. If you use really good mozzarella, it will taste almost buttery. Lastly,Pizza pans are very inexpensive and will also work much better than trying to fit on a cookie sheet. Pizza cutters work waaaaaay better than knives, just saying. Share your pics with us and we will post them on the blog. YUMMY!
